Autumn Budget 2026: What it means for you

The Autumn Budget brought a long list of tax changes, some immediate and others coming into effect over the next few years.

For business owners, the picture is mixed.

Capital gains tax rates remain unchanged and a new Founders’ Relief is coming, but the Business Asset Disposal Relief lifetime limit will fall to £500,000 from April 2027. There are also changes affecting income tax, savings and property income, pensions, capital allowances, business rates and Making Tax Digital.

The bigger issue is that the tax system is becoming more complicated, particularly for owner-managed businesses where decisions around salary, dividends, investment, pensions or an eventual exit can have very different consequences.

We’ve put together a practical summary of the main announcements, key dates and 2027/28 rates.

Every business is different, and so is the impact of this Budget. Whether it's reviewing how you draw income, planning an exit before the BADR changes, or getting your systems ready for MTD and e- invoicing, your Halkin team can help.
